Dimensions of Quality: Actuality and Timeliness

Hi #FriendsData, in the previous video we discussed the dimensions of quality, accuracy and reliability. Well, now #Statmin will explain the next dimension of quality, namely actuality and timeliness.

So, #SahabatData, as a basis for formulating evidence-based government policies (evidence-based policy), official statistics are expected to be able to present up-to-date information and can be utilized according to a predetermined schedule. This demand is one of the dimensions of data quality, namely actuality and timeliness.

Actuality refers to the difference between the time the data was produced and the time the data was disseminated (time lag from reference date to release). The shorter the time period, the more actual information will be generated.

Meanwhile, on time indicates whether the information disseminated is in accordance with the predetermined schedule. Usually, it is informed in advance through the Advance Release Calendar (ARC).

UNSD recommends several things regarding this dimension. First, the actuality of the data needs to pay attention to international standards. For example, if GDP at the international level is generated on a quarterly basis, Indonesia needs to do the same. Second, pay attention to the trade off with other dimensions of quality. If the final data cannot be produced quickly, the statistical agency can issue provisional figures along with their technical notes. Third, establish good relations with respondents/data providers so that data can be obtained in a timely manner. Fourth, monitoring and measuring the timeliness of the release.
