What are statistics? According to Permenpan No. 19 of 2013, Statistics are Civil Servants (PNS) who are given full duties, responsibilities, authorities, and rights by officials authorized to carry out statistical activities. Statistical activities are activities of providing statistical data and information, as well as statistical analysis and development.

The position of statistician is divided into 2 levels. First, Skilled Statisticians are statisticians with technical qualifications whose duties and functions require technical mastery and work procedures in the field of statistics. Both Expert Statisticians are statisticians with professional qualifications whose duties and functions require mastery of science, methodology, and analytical techniques in the field of statistics.

According to Permenpan no 19 of 2013, the supervisor for the functional position of statistics is the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). BPS has also formed a Statistics Assessment Team, which is a team formed and determined by authorized officials and tasked with assessing the work performance of Statistics. This team is currently based in BPS Province and BPS RI.

Statistics functional positions are not only for BPS employees, but ASN outside BPS also have the opportunity to develop careers through statistical functional positions by taking competency tests organized by the BPS Education and Training Center.
